Founded through a bequest from Boston merchant Arioch Wentworth in 1904, Wentworth Institute of Technology held its first classes in 1911. It is a private, coeducational university with a 31-acre campus on Huntington Avenue in Boston's Fenway neighborhood. The university offers associate, bachelor's, master's, and professional certificate programs through the School of Architecture and Design, School of Computing and Data Science, School of Engineering, School of Management, and School of Sciences and Humanities.
Undergraduate and graduate study covers fields including architecture, engineering, computing, data science, management, sciences, humanities, and design. Wentworth's academic model combines classroom instruction with applied learning, and students are required to complete two cooperative education semesters, with an option for a third, in work related to their major. The institution also participates in the Colleges of the Fenway consortium, which supports cross-registration among member colleges.
