Appalachian State University’s Department of Applied Design offers a four-year Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design with a Furniture Design concentration in Boone, North Carolina. The professional studio program connects product design with the region’s established residential furniture manufacturing and showroom sector.
Foundational studies cover product design, computer-assisted drafting, solid modeling, design drawing, and materials and processes involving wood, metals, plastics, rubbers, fibers, and ceramics. Upper-level work includes sequential furniture design studios, model making, human factors, and furniture history, while a Sophomore Portfolio Review is required for entry to advanced design courses and all students complete a Marketing minor.
