More about
The Industrial Design department at RISD draws on responsible, human-centered design and teaches students to use critical thinking and the design process to improve companies, communities, and citizens. The BFA program emphasizes informed research and hands-on making, progressing from 2D sketching and drawing to 3D models and working prototypes that respond to real-world projects. The Master of Industrial Design (MID) frames industrial design as a vehicle for addressing social, cultural, and environmental issues, engaging students in advanced studios exploring new materials, medical devices, household products, furniture, and transportation. Alumni have gone on to impactful careers across a broad spectrum of fields including electronics, medical devices, household products, furniture, transportation design, nanotechnology, and emerging materials.
