Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) is an independent art and design college in Providence, Rhode Island, with an Industrial Design department that treats product development as a combination of research, critical thinking, and hands-on making. The BFA moves from drawing and two-dimensional communication to three-dimensional models and working prototypes developed through studio projects.
The two-year Master of Industrial Design examines social, cultural, and environmental questions through advanced studio work and design research. Across the programs, students explore materials, medical devices, household products, furniture, transportation, and other product contexts while developing skills in prototyping and design process.
