More about

San Jose State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design (BSID) through its Department of Design. The 120-credit professional program emphasizes human-centered innovation, product development, and manufacturing, integrating artistic design with technical, user-centered, and business principles. Students typically begin as BA Design Studies majors, completing foundation courses in visualization and design basics before undergoing a portfolio review to formally declare the BSID major. Upper-division coursework covers intermediate and advanced product studios, ergonomics, materials and processes, and advanced digital and physical prototyping. The program also includes professional development through design writing, internships, and a culminating final portfolio project. SJSU does not currently offer a BFA in Industrial Design; the BS is its primary professional degree for this field. The university is a public, urban institution founded in 1857 on a 154-acre campus in downtown San Jose.
