Southern Illinois University Carbondale offers Industrial Design as a specialization within the Bachelor of Fine Arts in the School of Art and Design. The 120-credit-hour curriculum combines artistic, technical, and functional study, including design fundamentals, materials and processes, computer-aided design, rendering, design analysis, and professional practice.
Students develop projects for products and visual applications while using the Pulliam Design Wing, which includes design research, fabrication, photography, exhibition, and maker spaces. After foundation study and prerequisite coursework, students complete a portfolio assessment and a senior thesis capstone.
