Kanazawa College of Art was founded in 1946 by the Kanazawa municipal government following WWII, became a full university in 1955, and established its graduate program in 1979. The school is publicly funded and taught primarily in Japanese, hosting roughly 145 undergraduate and 39 graduate students annually. The college offers two departments: Fine Art (Bijingei) and Design (Shinkei-kai), with the Design department subdivided into 11 fields including Industrial Design. A new accessible campus opened in 2023.
