The School of the Art Institute of Chicago houses product and industrial design education in the Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects. Its Designed Objects pathway combines object, furniture, and systems design with critical investigation and the interdisciplinary methods of a fine arts school.
Undergraduate students can pursue a Designed Objects pathway within the BFA in Studio, while graduate study includes the Master of Design in Designed Objects and related Studio options. Studio work is supported by fabrication facilities for woodworking, metalworking, digital modeling, laser cutting, and prototyping, with advanced students developing research-led projects and thesis work.
