Chiba University's Department of Design is part of its Faculty of Engineering and brings architectural, industrial, and environmental design into a shared academic foundation. Undergraduate students study these fields before entering the Design Course and choosing a laboratory-based area from the third year onward.
Laboratories address product design, furniture and interior design, and workspace design, while the graduate Design Science program supports research into products, human technology relationships, and environmental design. The department's work combines design practice with engineering knowledge and includes studio, seminar, and laboratory study.
