Musashino Art University began in 1929 as the Teikoku Art School and became a university in 1962. With campuses in Kodaira and Machida, it uses a liberal arts model in which students study across artistic disciplines.
The Department of Industrial, Interior and Craft Design includes Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Craft Design courses. Product study addresses household appliances, mobility, and everyday objects, while furniture and making are developed through interior and woodwork pathways supported by material and workshop practice.
