Founded in 1929 as the Teikoku Art School, Musashino Art University officially transitioned to university status in 1962. Located in Tokyo with campuses in Kodaira and Machida, it is renowned for its liberal arts approach requiring all students to take courses across different artistic disciplines. The Department of Industrial, Interior and Craft Design covers industrial design (products from appliances to vehicles), interior design (living/commercial spaces including furniture and lighting), and craft design (ceramics, metalwork, textiles, glassmaking, and woodwork/furniture making).
