More about

The University of Arizona does not offer a dedicated BFA or BS specifically titled Industrial Design or Product Design. Instead, the closest equivalent is the BA in Design Arts & Practices with an Object Design Emphasis, offered through the School of Art in the College of Fine Arts, in collaboration with the College of Architecture, Planning & Landscape Architecture (CAPLA). This 120-unit program focuses on 3D works ranging from unique pieces to mass-manufactured items, including handheld/portable products, furnishings, furniture, and systems. The curriculum requires design history foundations, core Object Design coursework, and a senior capstone project. Students develop skills in design thinking, iterative problem-solving, digital visual communications, prototyping techniques, and various materials and manufacturing technologies. Sustainability and ecological principles are integrated throughout. Career outcomes span product/industrial design, experience/UI design, graphic and web design, interior/spatial design, set and exhibition design, multimedia/animation, environmental and fashion design, and art direction.
