Established in 1953 in Hannover, the iF Design Award is operated by iF International Forum Design GmbH, owned by the nonprofit iF Design Foundation. The program covers product, communication, packaging, architecture, interior, service, user experience, and other areas of professional design.

Online preselection is followed by a physical final jury of more than 120 international design professionals using the iF Scorecard. Sustainability and environmental or social impact form a defined part of the assessment, and winners receive the iF logo, digital exhibition, press exposure, ranking points, and consideration for the iF Gold Award.
