OVERVIEW

The IDEA Design Award is an international competition organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America, honoring influential product, service, digital, and social impact design through rigorous blind judging.

The IDEA Design Award has recognized industrial design achievement for more than four decades and is organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America. Its categories span product, service, digital, strategy, concept, student, and social impact work, making it a broad benchmark for design innovation.

Multiple judges review entries through a blind process using criteria that include design innovation, benefit to users, benefit to clients or brands, benefit to society, and appropriate aesthetics. Winners receive Gold, Silver, or Bronze recognition, a trophy and digital certificate, gallery publication, and international publicity.

What is the prize?

Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards; one trophy and digital certificate for each winning design; winner gallery, Innovation Yearbook, international publicity, IDEA-mark usage, and possible accession of eligible winners to The Henry Ford permanent collection.

What do I need to submit?

Online entry with written statements covering the overview, innovation, user benefit, client/brand benefit, societal benefit, and aesthetics; materials, retail price, dimensions, and up to five high-resolution images are required, with video optional. Payment is required, and invited finalists may optionally ship a final physical product to The Henry Ford; prototypes, concepts, and appearance models are not accepted.

Do I need to submit a physical prototype?

Only finalists are required to submit a physical prototype. You do not need to submit one when applying or making your initial submission. If selected as a finalist, a physical prototype may need to be sent for evaluation and additional costs may apply. Check the official award website for specific requirements and shipping details.
