Established in 2012, the German Design Award is presented by the German Design Council, the organization behind Germany’s national design promotion activities. It recognizes products, services, communication, architecture, and other projects that demonstrate strong design quality and relevance to contemporary life.

An independent multidisciplinary jury reviews entries by category. Winners receive award labels, certificates, online gallery listings, jury statements, and press materials; Gold recipients also receive an additional physical award.

What is the prize?

The prize includes an award label, certificate, online gallery listing, video, jury statement, and press materials. Gold recipients also receive an additional physical award.

What do I need to submit?

Digital PDF up to 10 pages and/or video up to 180 seconds (max 50 MB), plus up to 5 images. Physical exhibit optional.

Do I need to submit a physical prototype?

Only finalists are required to submit a physical prototype. You do not need to submit one when applying or making your initial submission. If selected as a finalist, a physical prototype may need to be sent for evaluation and additional costs may apply. Check the official award website for specific requirements and shipping details.
