Founded in Chicago in 1950 in cooperation with the Museum of Modern Art, the Good Design Award US is organized by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design with the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and Metropolitan Arts Press. It recognizes products and designs that combine function, innovation, material quality, environmental responsibility, and visual quality.
An international jury of designers, architects, industrial designers, and critics reviews work across many categories. Winners receive Good Design recognition, a certificate, permission to use the Good Design mark, and promotion through the program website, publications, and Good Design Show; selected physical entries may join the Chicago Athenaeum permanent design collection.
