Established in 1954 from an idea by Gio Ponti, the Compasso d’Oro was initially organized by the La Rinascente department store and has been managed by the Association for Industrial Design, known as ADI, since 1958. It is one of the most historically significant design awards in Italy and focuses on the lasting quality of industrial design.
Eligible products and projects are selected through the ADI Design Index and reviewed by ADI’s Permanent Design Observatory through territorial, thematic, and final selection stages. Awarded works and Honourable Mentions are catalogued, promoted, and preserved in the ADI Compasso d’Oro Historical Collection.
