24° Studio

24d-studio is a multidisciplinary architecture and design practice founded in 2008 by Fumio M. Hirakawa and Marina Topunova and based in Kobe, Japan. Hirakawa, from Kobe, studied interior design at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology and architecture at SCI-Arc, while Topunova, born in Moscow, studied architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago and SCI-Arc and is a New York-registered architect. The studio produces architecture, interiors, installations, lighting, furniture, products and design objects through computational design, digital fabrication, material research, prototyping and hands-on making. Notable work includes the Airy lighting series and Home, a Kobe-commissioned monument for Incheon, with presentations at Salone del Mobile Milano and Tokyo Design Week and recognition including the 2013 SHADE competition and 2021 Design Daily Choice Awards.
