The Victoria and Albert Museum was founded in the nineteenth century to support art education and British industry through the study of applied arts. Its collections now span thousands of years and include more than two million objects across many materials and cultures.
The design holdings include over 14,000 pieces of furniture, as well as ceramics, glass, metalwork, textiles, plastics, and contemporary objects. Its galleries and changing exhibitions offer visitors a broad introduction to design history, from historic decorative arts to recent products collected through the museum's Rapid Response initiative.
