Founded in 1873 as the Museum of Applied Arts, Design Museum Helsinki has long documented the development of Finnish design. It occupies a historic building in central Helsinki and is closely associated with the country's design heritage.
The collection includes more than 75,000 objects, as well as drawings and photographs, with important work by designers such as Alvar Aalto, Tapio Wirkkala, Kaj Franck, and Eero Aarnio. Exhibitions place Finnish furniture, glass, ceramics, textiles, and everyday objects in historical and international context, while the museum's current institutional identity is linked to the Architecture and Design Museum.
